Florence 20 Lexington 19 - In Baseball!

Lexington and Florence engaged in a very high scoring baseball game Thursday afternoon. Florence won in the last at bat by scoring two runs to take the game 20-19, The game was good theater for the fans in attendance. Florence led 12-1 at one time only to see the Eagles fight back to tie the game at 13. Florence immediately answered with five runs to retake the lead 18-13. Lexington scored six runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for the first time at 19-18. In the bottom of the seventh with two out Florence punched two runs across for the win.

The Eagle offense was highlighted with Austin Bivins' second homer of the season and triples by Austin Catchings and Quade Haynie. Lexington pounded out 19 hits, six for extra bases. Florence also had 19 hits with a home run. The big difference was Lexington's 14 errors in the field. That does not count the wild pitches and passed balls that are in different categories.

The Eagles never quit trying the entire game. The mistakes just allowed Florence too many outs in the game. The loss leaves Lexington with a 2-6 district record and virtually out of the playoff picture.
