Giddings Police Report

April 6, 2009

At approximately 2:14 p.m., Lt. Harney took the City deposit to the first National Bank. While bank teller, Hilda Ugalde was using the counter to count the bills, she found a counterfeit $20 bill. The bank released the $20 bill to the PD for investigation.

On Monday at approximately 9:35 p.m., Officer D.A. Griffin initiated a traffic stop on a green 1995 Nissan Maxima that travelled westbound in approximately the 1300 block of W. 290. The driver, Lester Alejandro Pavon-Cuevas of Austin, was placed under arrest for no driver's license.

On Tuesday, at approximately 1:06 a.m., Officer D.A. Griffin initiated a traffic stop on a silver 1999 Mazda Protégé in the 1600 block of W. 290 westbound. The driver, Dennis Ernesto Andrade of Austin, was placed under arrest for no driver's license.

On Tuesday, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to a bicycle that had been found. Upon arrival at Brookshire Brothers Harrison spoke with Tim Pitts who stated that the bike had been there since Saturday morning and it appeared that on one was coming to pick it up. The bicycle is blue and silver and has "NEXT 18-speed power climber" stamped on the side. Harrison took the bike to the PD and it was logged into found property.

On Tuesday, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling 67 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone. Harrison then made contact with the driver who was identified as Debra Beisert and obtained her driver's license and ran a standard check through dispatch. Dispatch advised that Beisert has an active warrant through Bastrop County Sheriff's Department for theft. Harrison then took Beisert into custody for this warrant and transported her to Lee County Jail.

At approximately 8:42 a.m., Detective Corporal Lacey Carvin and Officer Shane Ray, responded to Zoch's Laundry, located at 288 N. Burleson in reference to a counterfeit $50 bill that had been passed. Upon arrival, Carvin met with Chris Becker who advised that sometime between 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday at closing and employee had received a counterfeit $50 bill. Becker provided Carvin with the bill bearing serial #GG05778883A. The bill was printed on very thin paper. Becker is compiling a list of customers who visited the business during the time frame that the bill was passed. After recovering the bill and returning to the PD, Carvin compared the bill to another counterfeit $50 bill that had been passed at Stop and Shop, located at 389 W. Austin on April 2. Carvin discovered that the bills had the same serial number. The bill received from Zoch's was logged into evidence. The case is active at this time, with known possible suspects.

Wednesday, while on routine patrol, Officer Shane Ray was dispatched to 486 Knox in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, Ray met with the victim who sated that items were stolen from his home. Report completed.

April 9, 2009

On Thursday at 6:52 p.m., Officer Connolly was dispatched to the Subway restaurant in reference to a female employee being assaulted by a male subject. The suspect had left the business heading westbound on E. Austin. The female reported to dispatch that the male subject was named Domingo Flores, Jr. and that he resided on Nails Creek Rd. Officer Spencer headed to the Nails Creek Road area and located the suspect vehicle parked in front of a residence. Flores was seen fleeing from the vehicle and into the residence. Flores was then seen running from the rear of the residence. Spencer chased and apprehended Flores after a short foot pursuit. Connolly and Lee county Deputy Derek Easley arrived on scene to assist. During the investigation, it was learned that Flores has been given a prior criminal trespass notice for the Subway restaurant. Flores was transported to the Lee County Jail by Connolly where he was charged with assault with injury, criminal trespass, and evading arrest or detention. Connolly later returned to the Subway and obtained witness statements from two other employees that witnessed the incident inside the store.

On Friday at approximately 8:31 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to a gas drive off at 4115 E. Austin St. Upon arrival at Texaco, Harrison spoke with Scott Kinsfather who stated that a white Ford station wagon drove off with $25 in gas without paying for it. Kinsfather was able to obtain a license plate from this vehicle. The case is still pending investigation.

April 10, 2009

On Friday, at approximately 1:14 p.m., Officer Joseph Harrison and Sgt. Anthony Ramirez received a call from dispatch in reference to a burglary that had occurred during the previous night. Upon arrival at 431 Biscayne St. Harrison spoke with the reporting party who stated that when they left the night before the house was secure and when they arrived home today at approximately 1 p.m., they noticed their residence has been broken into and that a flat screen T.V. has been stolen. This case is under investigation.

April 10, 2009

At 7:44 p.m., an officer was advised by dispatch of two unknown female subjects who entered the Dan's Discount Liquor store and one of the females shoplifted two bottles of liquor. Raj Rajpari stated that while helping one customer, the other female allegedly picked up two bottles and walked out of the store.

April 11, 2009

On Saturday, at approximately 2:40 p.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to found property. Upon arrival at 400 Highland, Harrison spoke with Mr. Carter who stated that he has found a bicycle in a nearby alley. The bicycle was missing both front and back wheel assemblies. The bicycle was taken to GPD for storage.

On Saturday, at approximately 3:50 p.m. Officer Joseph Harrison and Sgt. Farah Ramsey received a call from dispatch in reference to a burglary that had occurred. Upon arrival at Shade Tree Apartments, Harrison spoke with Nathan Harris who stated that his Dell laptop had been stolen from inside his house. Harris stated the he and his girlfriend had left the apartment for a few minutes to go grocery shopping and upon returning found that the apartment had been broken into. The suspect entered in through the back door and unlocked door, took the laptop and went through a purse lying on the floor, then left. Fingerprints were taken from the scene. This case is still under investigation.

April 11, 2009

At approximately 7:43 p.m., Officers D.A. Griffin and Adam Shepard and Deputy C Robertson responded to a 911 call involving a reckless driver on West 290. The driver, Sobee Lopez of Giddings ignored the police unit's emergency lights and sirens and refused to stop the vehicle. Lopez drove through the cemetery and then went northbound across W. 290 into a field area, across the railroad tracks, and then collided with a tree. Griffin pursued the vehicle on foot and took Lopez into custody. He was charged with Evading Arrest with a vehicle, D.W.I., fail to Identify, and no Driver's License. He was transported to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, processed and released.

April 12, 2009

On Sunday, at approximately 2:12 a.m., Officer D.A. Grifin initiated a traffic stop on a black 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup in the 300 block of E. 290 eastbound. The driver, Luis Enrique Maeraz of Waco, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

On Sunday at approximately 7:49 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to a theft that had occurred the night before. Upon arrival at 4002 E. Austin St., Ramada Inn, Harrison spoke with complainant, Terri Erickson, who stated that when she awoke this morning she noticed the rear passenger wheel and tire were stolen. Erickson stated she arrived at the hotel sometime around 11 p.m. Video cameras captured all three suspects in the act of the crime as well as images of their vehicle, a silver Honda Civic. This case is under investigation.

April 12, 2009

On Sunday, at approximately 11:41 a.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to a hit-and-run that had occurred earlier in the night. Upon arrival at Ramada Inn, Harrison spoke with Refugio Alaniz who stated that someone has run into his vehicle and drove off. Alaniz did not see the accident or know what time it may have happened. Surveillance videos are being viewed to see if the crime was recorded. This case is under investigation.

April 12, 2009

On Sunday, at approximately 4:16 p.m., Officer Joseph Harrison received a call from dispatch in reference to a gas drive-off that had occurred at CITGO in the 500 block of E. Austin. Upon arrival, Harrison spoke with Elias Wazen who stated that a white male driving a white Ford station wagon drove off without paying for $23 in gas. The clerk was able to obtain a license plate number. This case is still under investigation.
