Fourteen Rescued off Drilling Rig

On January 25, 2012, at 7:30 p. m., Lee County Dispatch received a 911 call from a Nabors Drilling employee reporting 14 of their workers were stranded on a drilling rig located about two miles off FM 1624 in Lexington. Nabors was there preparing to drill on the Harrison property for Vanedo Oil and Gas.

Much needed rains came last Wednesday morning, bringing with it some unwanted consequences. At least three rescue operations happened in Lexington, as a result of rising waters, and the gym at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln was destroyed.

On January 26, 2012, at 7:42 a.m., Lee County Sheriff Rodney Meyer, along with Chief Deputy Nathan Lapham, and Deputies Jeremiah Rudolph and Lee Liles, responded to Dime Box High School regarding a terroristic threat reported by a bus driver to Principal B. Fowler.

Fatal Accident

A one car fatal accident occurred last Friday morning at about 5:45 a.m. Megan Rene Gilmore, 24 of Giddings, was traveling southbound on FM 180 2.4 miles northwest of Ledbetter. The Department of Public Safety reported that she struck a black cow that was in the roadway.

School Bus Driver and Student Rescued from Rising Water

Cheryl Richardson of Lexington was on her normal bus route for LISD and had picked up one of her charges by 6: 45 last Wednesday morning. Her route had her on FM 112, near the Lee/ Milam County line. The rain had been coming done for a while, but Cheryl said she could clearly see the yellow and white lines that mark the roadways.

Personnel Cuts at LISD May be Imminent

During a public meeting on Monday, January 30, 2012, the Lexington ISD Board of Trustees reviewed the impending budget cuts in state and federal allocations for the 2012-2013 school year. The district successfully met its budget reduction goal for 2011- 2012 by taking a serious look at efficiencies across the district and offering an early notification of resignation incentive.
